FAQ

App icon questions

What size should my Android app icon be?
Android requires app icons in multiple densities. The required sizes are: 48×48 (mdpi), 72×72 (hdpi), 96×96 (xhdpi), 144×144 (xxhdpi), 192×192 (xxxhdpi), and 512×512 for the Google Play Store listing. This tool generates all six in one download.
What is an adaptive icon?
Adaptive icons (Android 8.0+) are a two-layer format — a foreground layer and a background layer — that let launchers apply different masks (circle, squircle, etc.) per device. This tool generates the legacy icon format used in all existing WebView apps. Adaptive icons require a separate design tool like Android Studio or Figma.
Does my image get sent to a server?
No. The icon generator runs entirely in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your image is loaded into browser memory, resized locally, and packaged into a ZIP that is saved directly to your computer. Nothing is sent to our servers.
What image format should I upload?
PNG is recommended — it supports transparency and lossless quality. Your source image should be at least 512×512 pixels and square (1:1 ratio). Non-square images will be stretched; for best results, crop to a square first. JPG works but transparency becomes white.
Why does my icon look cropped in Google Play?
Google Play applies a rounded-square mask to app icons. Elements near the corners may be clipped. Keep your logo within the central 75% of the canvas (the "safe zone"). Design with 12.5% padding on each edge so nothing important is cut off on any device.
